If you’re travelling with Virgin Australia in the near future and you
find yourself in business class, you’ll more than likely be offered a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
to consume media content on during the flight. The devices will also be
available on select flight that have a duration exceeding 3 hours
(think Melbourne -> Perth) for economy class travellers as well — for
an extra cost, of course. That pricing hasn’t been announced just yet,
but Virgin is assuring everyone pricing will be cleared up before
full-on launch.
Each tablet will have a range of content already loaded onto it, and Virgin are working on installing Lufthansa BoardConnect wireless streaming to certain planes so that even more content can be consumed over Wi-Fi.
Virgin will have the tablets available for rent on their Airbus 330s and Boeing 737-600s within in the next 12-18 months. It looks like flying just far more appetising on Virgin.
